The Cookie Train is Coming - Time Lapse Cookie Video!

Posted by Anne Yorks on Monday, February 23, 2015

Trains remind me of my dad. This past Christmas he set up a 4-track display complete with a working amusement park - carousel, bumper cars, and cotton candy stand! It was amazing. Our family had a blast watching the trains (that puffed real steam) ride around the display. I can't imagine the time and creativity it took to build the set. But, my dad loves it so much. I could see the joy on his face when all the grandkids were gathered around oohing and aahing over the amazing display.

That is kind of like cookies. Some people don't get why anyone would take the time to decorate in such a detailed and time consuming way. For me it is so enjoyable. I love the process and then I love the reaction from the customer when the cookies are all done!

This set of cookies was for a birthday boy that loves trains!

Would you like to see how the train was actually decorated? Here's a time-lapse video of the decorating from start-to-finish. My husband had a little fun with editing the video at the end :) This video is sped up and edited, so you don't see the drying time between icing colors. But, I let neighboring icing areas dry for at least an hour or two before moving on.

This train cutter is available in my shop here and is a great favor size! It's made by Ann Clard LTD, a great company from Vermont!

I have been getting a lot of questions after posting the decorating videos here and on facebook.

Here are the two most popular things people ask:

Q: What is the icing?

A: I use royal icing to decorate my cookies. I have written a blog post on it here. There is also a great video tutorial of how to make this icing in the tutorial section of the shop.

Q: What tip number are you using?

A: Most often, I use a #2 round tip. It's a good size for both outlining and detailing. Occasionally I use the #1.5 and #1 for the finer details, and a #3 for the big stuff. But, I find the #2 is my go-to. These tips are all available here online.  Use the coupon code trainsarecool to earn 15% off all DECORATING TIPS - coupon good through Feb 27th!

And, while I still have you...there are some exciting announcements coming down the pike! Stay tuned for an extra amazing Flour Box Bakery Facebook giveaway and a few other fun updates to the shop.

I hope you have a great week,

Anne
