Honestly, I am happy to do repeat cookies I have already done. No problem. It's already planned. I know I can do it. Bring. It. On.
But, I am also happy when a customer asks for the same shape with a new design.
Recently, I had the pleasure of making a set of butterfly cookies for a last day of school party. I searched through tons of butterfly photos and images and found this one and just loved the summery colors. It stood out more than any other butterfly I looked at that day.
I'm not sure what attracted me to this image. I think I had summer on the brain and I liked the colors.
Using that photo as inspiration, here is my butterfly.
I double flooded white detail onto the yellow wings. Then I brushed the edges with an orange airbrush and used a little disco dust to add some sparkle.
I think one thing that really made these cookies special was the wing design.
I think you can see it better from this angle. I flooded the top half of the wing and let it dry completely. Then I flooded the bottom half and instead of the two sections running together, they really look segmented. I personally think that the small amount of time and patience required to do this is so very worth it.
So after decorating literally hundreds of butterflies in the past, it was so much fun to try a new take on an old favorite.
