The Armor of God in Cookies

Posted by Anne Yorks on Thursday, July 11, 2013

Tonight is the last night of Vacation Bible School at my church. It has been an awesome week of making friends, doing crafts, playing games and learning about Ephesians 6:10-18 - The Armor of God!

I had learned about the Armor of God several times, but did not have it memorized. After making so many of these cookies, I think I will know it for life! Here's the passage from the Bible that describes each piece of armor.

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the LordA)"> and in his mighty power.B)"> 11 Put on the full armor of God,C)"> so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,D)"> but against the rulers, against the authorities,E)"> against the powersF)"> of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.G)"> 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God,H)"> so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,I)"> with the breastplate of righteousness in place,J)"> 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.K)"> 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,L)"> with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.M)"> 17 Take the helmet of salvationN)"> and the sword of the Spirit,O)"> which is the word of God.P)">

18 And pray in the SpiritQ)"> on all occasionsR)"> with all kinds of prayers and requests.S)"> With this in mind, be alert and always keep on prayingT)"> for all the Lord’s people.

I made these cookies for all the volunteers that helped with the event!

Do you want to make these cookies for an event at your church, but don't have the cookie cutters? I didn't have any armor cookie cutters either, so here is what I used for each cookie:

1. Helmet of Salvation is a squished #8
2. The breastplate is a trimmed onesie
3. The belt of truth is the bottom of a dress.
4. The shoes of the Gospel of Peace are cowboy boots
5. The shield of faith is an upside down Christmas bell
6. And the sword of the word of God (or truth as I listed) is actually a sword cookie cutter (that one I had from a light saber order)

As a group leader at VBS, I am a little sad the week is already coming to an end. I'm going to miss dancing and goofing around with the 12 kids that are in my group. I hope the kids had as much fun as I did! I am already looking forward to next year!!

Have a sweet day,

Anne
