The Princess and the Pea (a Once Upon a Time Collaborative Cookie Project)

Posted by Anne Yorks on Sunday, January 22, 2012

This set of Princess and the Pea cookies was created for a unique collaborative project with 21 other cookie decorators from around the United States (and one in Korea!!). I felt honored to work with such a talented group of ladies on this fun project! If you would like to view the project in its entirety, click here. It is truly amazing the amount of time and love that went into each collection - and to think it is all flour and sugar!

Here was the cookie challenge: create a set of baby shower cookies centered around a specific fairy tale character as a baby or child.

We did not pick our characters. Each one was pulled randomly from a hat. There were a few leftover characters that decorators could make an exchange in case they creatively did not mesh with what was assigned. A few of us traded, but for the most part, everyone stayed with their original assignment.

The Princess and the Pea was certainly a fun character to have.

I created four different cookies for my collection: a 'Once Upon a Time' cookie, a peapod cookie, the mattress cookie, and a 'Lived Happily Ever After Cookie'. Creating the stack of mattresses was my biggest challenge. Using both my #0 and #00 tips, I was able to add the patterns to the individual mattress layers.

I added a little green pea at the very bottom and tapped a smidgen of green disco dust to give it a bit of sparkle.

I imaged that the princess was born in a little pea pod ... and that is why she had the ability to sense the little pea under all those mattresses! Using both royal icing and a green food marker, I added some viney/leafy detail to the top and sides of the cookie.

I also used my food marker on the Once Upon a Time cookie. I think it makes the cookie look a little more dimensional. This cookie coordinates with the pea pod cookie (the vines and flowers)... because this is the start of the princess' story.

I added sparkly stars and hearts to the 'Happily Ever After' cookie to coordinate with the crib cookie.

One Sweet Party was nice enough to design a special set of treat bag toppers and tags for our project. Here are my cookies packed up and ready to go as if they were really going to a baby shower.

Are you wondering who ate these cookies? I am giving them to a local girl scout troop. I met with them last week to discuss their cookie sales and promised to share with them a sweet little treat! I hope they enjoy!!

Thanks for visiting the Flour Box Bakery blog, and if you haven't already done so, please go look at the project in it's entirety. You will be amazed!!
