How to Decorate a Chocolate Box Cookie

Sometimes I get so excited about a cookie idea that I get butterflies when I'm rolling the dough. Really, I just can't wait for the cookies to be baked.

I already have an idea of what I'm making because I sketch my ideas first. And I knew I wanted to use those new Wilton bow candies. I didn't bother coloring in the sketch, just a rough idea of my plan.

These were SUPER fun to make!!

These are the Chefmaster colors I used in this set: Christmas red, deep pink (just a dot to get the pastel pink), ivory (for the white chocolate), buckeye brown (for the milk chocolate), buckeye brown + black (for the dark chocolate), and bright white. Let's talk about the royal icing transfers. Making those candy pieces ahead of time was a big time saver. 

I slipped a pattern sheet under parchment paper and using a tipless bag, quickly piped the candies. 

I let them dry for 12 hours before peeling them an using them on the cookie.

Since those chocolate boxes were a little more time consuming, I made simple, mini accent cookies using the new Sugarbelle Mini Chocolate cutter set.

Easy and cute - my favorite kind of cookies!

We carry several double hearts in our shop, but this large version works the best for this project!

The one detail that takes this cookie to the next level is the cute bow on the box lid. I know I could have piped it myself, but these Wilton bows are so cute and perfect and, well, EASY. We also carry these in our shop - click here to check them out!

I plan to give these cookie sets to the teachers at my daughters' school. (the cookies are in the freezer until Valentine's Day).
